Dear Community Members:

Revere Local School District recently received notification from the Ohio Department of Education that, for the thirteenth consecutive year, we have earned an excellent rating on the state report card. In fact, this year we earned the highest rating of “Excellent with Distinction”.

This kind of achievement does not happen accidentally. It happens because of a very supportive community, a diligent school board, dedicated teachers, visionary leaders, and great students. Revere continues to distinguish itself as a model of excellence in Ohio. We also understand that we face numerous challenges in the next few years as education changes due to the needs of the 21stcentury learner. The district is already working to establish an environment that will embrace those changes and maintain our tradition of excellence.

During theState of the District address on Tuesday evening, October 16, Dave Forrest (Treasurer/CFO) and I reported on the status of the district and reviewed the newly created Strategic Plan. Mr. Forrest reported that our Five-Year Forecast, developed with input from our Finance and Audit Committee, shows solid financial predictions. This positive outlook is a result of the support from the community during the last levy campaign, new negotiated agreements for all staff and administrators, participation in cooperative purchasing programs, shared service opportunities, constant vigilance regarding purchasing and a new aggressive healthcare program focused on wellness. Mr. Forrest has reported on numerous occasions that Revere is an island of financial stability in Ohio.

There is also a transformation happening to our buildings. Some of which you see and some infrastructure which you don’t see. During the past year we initiated a HB 264 project that updated our energy management system throughout the district. Boilers, lighting, windows, and an electronic monitoring system were replaced. We will realize significant savings in utility costs due to these upgrades. Using Permanent Improvement Funds we replaced our parking lots at the middle school, high school, stadium and administration building, we have repaired roofs at the middle school and at Bath Elementary, and we are completing a major window replacement project at the high school. These are necessary improvements that will enhance and re-energize our aging facilities.

Academically Revere continues to look to the future in an effort to prepare our students to be college/career ready. We annually produce successful graduates who move on to some of the most selective universities in the state and country. Surveyed Revere graduates tell us that they were well prepared for whatever they chose to do after commencement. This past school year we completed the installation of a wireless network in each of our buildings. Staff and students now have filtered access to the internet which will enhance the use of technology in our classrooms. This includes the philosophy of students bringing their own electronic devices to school. We have initiated a number of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities and coursework, changed the grading scale for students in grades 3-8, and continued to offer 16 Advanced Placement courses. Many of our students participating in the visual arts, Power of the Pen, the Lantern (high school newspaper), Ohio Math League, Band and Choir, Debate, Science Olympiad, etc. are recognized for their achievement. Our athletic program has produced numerous conference championships, state qualifiers and a nationally ranked men’s soccer team. This school year sixteen students were recognized by the National Merit organization and one student scored a perfect 36 on the ACT.

I am very proud to represent Revere at the local, state and national level. We have a strong school district with an ongoing reputation for excellence. Our goal is to build on that level of accomplishment and continue to increase achievement in all areas and in all of our buildings.

Thank you for your continued support and for sending us such great students to teach. Revere Pride...Catch it!
